This year, I got stuck with the worst teacher. She puts duct tape on our desks to threaten us to stop talking, she screams and swears at us and once she even hit a kid with her wooden ruler. She’s horrible. But the worst part is, my parents don’t believe me. The minute another teacher or parent comes into the class she acts as sweet as honey. This woman should be fired. What should I do?
This is a tough position to be in. Many teachers yell, especially if they have a class that disrespects their authority. But if she has built a reputation for unacceptable behavior like swearing, hitting students and threatening them with duct tape, then you absolutely need to report this.
- Text with students. Be sarcastic.
- Focus on the policies that bother you.
- Focus on policies in general.
- Be ‘progressive’ in a non-progressive district.
- Challenge parents.
- Mishandle money.
- Be careless with student interactions.

Keep track of any times they break the rules or treat someone poorly and write down the time and date. If possible, ask witnesses to back up your claims after it happens and collect any evidence. Once you have a case, ask a parent or guardian to report the facts to your principal. For more help, including how to take your complaint to the school board, scroll down.
