Maryland WARN rules

Maryland has its own notice law on top of the federal rule. According to the Maryland Department of Labor, the Economic Stabilization Act, amended in 2020 by Senate Bill 780, requires covered employers to give 60 days of notice of a reduction in operations to the affected employees and to MD Labor’s Dislocation Services Unit, among others. Its revised regulations took effect on October 13, 2025.

MD Labor’s log includes notices filed under the federal WARN Act and the state Economic Stabilization Act, plus some layoffs reported voluntarily that do not meet either threshold. Our archive keeps every notice we have collected, starting from January 2026.

When does Maryland require a layoff notice?

According to the Maryland Department of Labor, the state Economic Stabilization Act requires covered employers to give 60 days of notice of a reduction in operations to the affected employees and to MD Labor’s Dislocation Services Unit. The federal WARN Act also applies.

How often does Maryland publish WARN notices?

MD Labor adds notices to its dislocation log as it receives them. We check the log every hour and add new notices as soon as they appear.
