What is a WARN notice?
Under the federal WARN Act, employers with 100 or more employees must give 60 calendar days’ notice before a plant closing or mass layoff that affects at least 50 workers at one site, and they must notify the state as well as the workers (20 CFR Part 639). New York also has its own WARN Act, with stricter rules than the federal law: see our guide to layoff notice requirements by state.

The table at the top of this page counts the WARN notices posted by the New York State Department of Labor in the last 30 and 90 days and the number of workers affected, updated twice a day.
Where does New York WARN data come from?
From the WARN Dashboard of the New York State Department of Labor. We read its list of notices twice a day. When a notice is amended, we keep the date it was first posted and use the latest figures.
Why does the number of workers say minimum?
The New York dashboard reports the minimum number of affected workers for each site, so the actual number can be higher.
