California WARN rules

California has its own WARN law on top of the federal rule. According to the EDD, it generally applies to employers with 75 or more full-time and part-time employees that plan a layoff of 50 or more employees within a 30-day period, a plant or facility closure, or a relocation, and it requires written notice at least 60 days in advance (California Labor Code, Section 1400.5).

The EDD publishes notices in a report for each fiscal year that starts on July 1. Our archive keeps every notice we have collected, starting from July 2026.

The table at the top of this page counts the WARN notices processed by the California EDD in the last 30 and 90 days and the number of workers affected, updated twice a day.

When does California require a WARN notice?

According to the California EDD, the state WARN Act generally applies to employers with 75 or more full-time and part-time employees that plan a layoff of 50 or more employees within 30 days, a plant closure or a relocation, and it requires at least 60 days’ notice.

How often does California publish WARN notices?

The EDD says its WARN report is updated every Tuesday and Thursday. We check it twice a day and add new notices as soon as they appear.
